Can Schedule 40 Pipe be threaded?

The wall thickness of Schedule 40 is not heavy enough to thread. Adding wall thickness to a Schedule 40 pipe until sufficient material is under the threads would lead to a Schedule 80 pipe, not Schedule 40.
