  1. Izod Impact Strength: samples have two (15° ± 1/2°) notches on opposite sides to a depth of 5 mm.
  2. Abrasive wear is measured in the laboratory by a “sand/water-slurry test”, in which a sample is rotated at high velocity in a sand/water slurry for 24 hours. The following table gives an indication of the abrasion resistance of DURAVAR UHMW polymer. A value of 100 was designed for the amount of volumetric abrasion loss to UHMW specimen. The values shown for other materials are their relative loss compared to DURAVAR. The higher the figure, the greater the abrasion loss.

General Machining Guidelines

  • Cutting: Band Saw: 3,300 – 6,600 ft./min. circular saws: 10,000 – 13,000 ft/min.
  • Turning: Up to 2,000 ft/min.

Note: Higher cutting, turning, and drilling speeds may require compressed air, water, or cutting oil for cooling. The information herein contained is based upon data believed to be thoroughly reliable, but no guaranty or warranty with respect to accuracy or completeness or product result is implied and no liability is assumed.
