Here is an overview of bag thicknesses and their uses:
- 1.5 mil = ideal for packaging small screws, parts, clothing, and a wide variety of other items that need protection from dust and dirt
- 2 mil = standard-duty weight
- 3 mil = offers strength and toughness at significant cost savings; ideal for parts, tools, and a variety of other applications
- 4 mil = heavy-duty bag for heavier products
- 6 mil = Super heavyweight bags are the right choice for sharp-edged products, such as metal dies, hardware and plumbing supplies, etc.
The gauge of the material is measured in thousands of an inch, called 'mils.' A bag that is 1.5 mil is 0.0015" thick.
