Whirl-Pak® sponge and probe bags offer a trusted, sterile solution for environmental surface sampling. Each ready-to-use sponge or probe is packed in a sterile, sealed Whirl-Pak® bag, providing durable, optimal performance for testing foodborne pathogens, biofilms, and surface contaminants. The opening Tyvek® pull tabs are perpendicular to the opening, keeping hands away for a safe, aseptic collection technique each time. To use the sponge, tear open the top of the Whirl-Pak® bag, squeeze out any excess buffer solution (if using a hydrated sponge), remove the sponge from the bag, swab the surface, insert the sponge back into the bag, fold the top of the bag over three or more times, then bend in the wire tabs to close. The capacity is measured when the bag is closed and the tab is folded over three times (volume and dimensions are approximate, ±5%). The PolyProbe and PolySponge bags feature durable, non-toxic, allergen-free sponges that resist tearing and fraying and are tough enough to withstand the pressure to break through tough biofilms without leaving residue behind. The Cellulose Speci-Sponge® bags are ideal for environmental surface sampling of work areas, equipment, animal carcasses, and any other place where testing for Listeria, Salmonella, E.coli, coliforms, and other foodborne pathogens or anthrax is required. The dry sponge shelf life is 5 years from the sterilization date, and the hydrated sponge shelf life is 2 years from the sterilization date with proper ambient storage (36°F to 86°F).
